A by-product (unusable) for a larger project, suddenly it looked good enough to be toiling with it for three days. Blender 2.79, Cycles, GIMP for textures.
That looks quite convincing!
It is very close to nailing that sort of rough and sort of milky look you find in crystals, one of the better attempts I have seen.
Having a lot of this could make for a nice high quality scene.
Thanks a lot!
I’m afraid, however, ‘milky’ look is a largely result of denoising, whereas what may seem like crystals’ interior structure is, in fact, mere reflections. Crystal mats are a sick combo of Gleb Alexandrov’s ice tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeObbrfCSUY), intertwined with Glossy, Transparent and Refraction BSDF, and then goes Principled BSDF with transmission at 0.999.
I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
My profound gratitude, mr. Veldhuizen!
