Has anyone came across a good low poly forum? Like Game-artist.net I am a member there but i want to know if there is a different site like that for people that aren’t that great at poly modeling. When I go to GA I don’t like to post my stuff there because everyone on that site has Photoshop,3DS Max, Mud Box or Maya… I guess I am to embarrassed because my work sucks. I know the only way to get better is by practicing.
So if anyone knows of a good site for newbies that would be great.
Thank you:ba:
Polycount is very good, however its filled with professionals. Dont let that stop you tho, you shouldnt have any problems with people telling you to switch software or anything of that nature and they will give some very helpful (if harsh) comments.
Yes, very good comment, jrs100000. Have you checked the ‘low-poly models’ (I think it was called) thread? People were posting incredible stuff every day.
What’s wrong posting in forums with people that own fancy programs? I own PS and Maya but I still use blender and gimp more. Don’t let your program limit your abilities. The only thing Maya has that blender does’t have is fancy nurbs (which you can’t even use in a game) and a great rendering engine (scratch that, incredible rendering engine)
In the end the lower end applications usually suit your needs better than the high end ones.
@Killer: His issue isnt actually with the software, more so with the fact that the people using that software are highly skilled(many having jobs in these fields). Most people with access to apps liek Maya, mudbox, zbrush etc really know what they’re doing. So of course he’d be intimidated. This does not need to turn into an app argument.
@lgb: I was wondering the same a few months ago, and unfortunately I found either communities with zero skill or help to offer, or communities with far more than I had. I would recommend going with the more elite communities, it may motivate to really learn faster. Good luck!
Thats Free…I do the SMC on GameArtists because i just like to see if anyone enjoys my work…I havent got a vote yet but i dont care haha
P.S. Havent talked to you in a long time
I’ve been lurking on Gameartisans, Polycount, 3DTotal and … hmmm… Not really ever been to GameArtists (i dunno why I don’t… maybe I’ll go there more often)…
But there are a few of us low-poly geeks here on the BA forums as well who will be glad to help. But trust me when I say that I’ve seen some stuff on those sites that are probably more amature than anything you could do, and people will just go out of their way to help you. I generally hang on Polycount due to the lowpoly thread (only thread I think I’ve ever posted work in, heh).
