LP Script Box - manage & run your scripts as fast as possible

Hello fellow Blender scripters,

I want to share an addon I’ve been developing for my personal use. It turned out to be very useful and indispensable for me personally as a heavy script user. Thought I might wanna see if other people also find it useful.

It’s called LP Script Box and it has one goal: make accessing your scripts (searching, editing, running) as easy as possible.

quick-run

Features

  • List and filter (search) scripts in root folder
  • Run scripts directly from 3D viewport without opening Blender’s text editor
  • Quick open scripts to edit in internal or external editor
  • Fuzzy search for scripts to either run, edit or create new
  • Pin scripts for quick access or to assign hotkeys to them
  • Pie menu for quick access using mouse
  • All features are made hotkey-friendly and easy to add to quick favorites menu
  • Scripts use 3D viewport as execution context by default, save you the trouble of overriding contexts while writing them

Main Panel

  • Edit: open selected script in a floating internal editor window
  • Run: run the selected script. Execution context is the current 3D Viewport.
  • Edit with External Editor: open the selected script in an external text editor (specified in addon preferences). This button is disabled when external editor path is not set.
  • Open Script Folder: open the directory in OS’s default file explorer.

Pinned Scripts

Use the Pin Script button to pin the currently selected script to this panel. Each pinned script will become a button that can be assigned hotkeys or added to Quick Favorites menu.

Pinned scripts can be reordered using the Up/Down arrow buttons. This is mostly intended to adjust scripts’ positions within the Pinned Scripts Pie Menu

Quick Run

This operator (button) is intended for use with a hotkey/quick favorite.

Press the assigned hotkey and type to instantly find and run scripts with fuzzy-matching suggestions.

quick-run

If a script with matching name doesn’t exist in the script directory, open Blender’s internal text editor to create a script with that name.

Additional Quick Run commands:

  • Prefix script name with ":e " to edit instead of running the script
  • Prefix script name with ":x " to edit in external editor instead

Pinned Scripts Pie Menu

This operator is intended for use with a hotkey.

Press the assigned hotkey to open a pie menu with the first 8 pinned scripts. This allows quick execution while using mouse.

Planned Features

  • Tag scripts and search scripts by tags
  • Show scripts’ descriptions while searching/selecting
  • Pinned scripts presets
  • Manage multiple root folders
  • History (last edited and executed scripts in order)

I’m probably blind or too novice, but how do i change keybinds? For example “trigger last used script” and change it to mouse button. I managed to find it via wm.lpy but rebidning does not launch script, I guess its security measures that i have to be in script window

Hi, all the functions that you can assign hotkeys to are available as buttons on the addon’s panel. You can Right Click any of them and Assign Shortcut just like any other Blender’s button.

There’s no “Run last script” button yet, I’ll add it in the next patch.

Right now, you can pin the script then assign shortcut to it through the Pinned Scripts panel.

If it still doesn’t work, chances are you have another hotkey that’s conflicting with it and taking priority in the 3D Viewport. The symptom is the hotkey only works when you hover the panel.
