I hope that sooner or later someone will also take care of the Linux version, Lux has always been available for Linux too.

Thanks a lot!
I love Luxcore so much
I am very happy that you were able to revive it for Linux.
I have Kubuntu 24.04 and Luxcore works great.

Is it true that Luxcore is being revived by new developers?

And does the latest BlendLuxCore make use of that new version?

Asked it over at the Luxcore Discord, and got this answer:

Yes, there is activity again in LuxCore At the moment, the goal with version 2.10 is to re-establish a stable version, basically unchanged in terms of features compared to v2.6, but with an updated compilation pipeline, updated dependencies of the C++ core, and compatibility for Blender 4.2 LTS (primary Blender goal). After v2.10, we will look at implementing new features as well.

From the releases, download the zip file and install it in Blender as an extension using “install from disk”. It is compatible with macOS, both Intel and ARM. Compared to the old versions, there is now only one file for BlendLuxCore for all operating systems.

The correct core-backend library for your OS is downloaded during the installation.

That’s great news! :+1:

I’ve posted about it on Mastodon:

GREAT NEWS!

I was worried the project died. Its my favourite engine, yet not for everyday use.

Thank you for investigating!

So glad to see new life being breathed into this great render engine

I guess it’s too early to ask this but is there already some sort of road map of what new or improved features might come?

If Luxrender remains largely a one-man-show however (with no previous talent returning who know intimately how the code works), and there is no secondary developer if the current lead has to take a break or moves on to another project, then the project remains rather vulnerable to stagnation and abandonment.

At this point I would say Cycles is the opensource engine with the most robust development, and that is because the Blender Foundation has the money to fund a dedicated development team for it. It is actually the only opensource offline render engine with serious manpower behind it right now, as many FOSS engines have come and gone with only Luxrender lasting more than a few years. Luxrender could market itself as the last developed standalone engine in FOSS, which could bring resources its way but it is not a guarantee.

What they need is a solid business model if they want to survive IMO
Bit sad to hear the LuxCore team is scattered :frowning:

Currently the libraries are sorted out and a stable version supporting Blender 4.2 LTS is in alpha stage.
Once this is ready, a poll shall be conducted determining further development.

Hi, I’m really glad to see development has resumed. Now, with Linux, I can use the rendering engine without crashes. I’ve been running tests, but I’m facing an issue I can’t figure out. In the UI, I can see caustics, yet they don’t appear in the final render. I’m unsure if it’s my setup or a LuxRender bug. I’m using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Blender 4.3 with the latest BlendLuxCore-2.10.0-alpha.2

Here the result with this issue.

It is not just “scattering” also it has some serious reasons

What’s that?
