Lyubomir's pixar eyes tut

I’m having trouble with Lyubomir Kovachev’s pixar eyes tutorial.

http://blenderchar.weirdhat.com/eyetute/

I’ve got the modeling and most of the materials down but am having trouble with the image texturing of the iris. Can someone please explain to me how to do this. When I load the iris image, in the preview sphere material, the iris is half on the top and half down the bottom. How do I apply it to the model?

Is the image applied to both sides? How do I scale it?

Also, in relation to the tutorial should I weld the separate parts of the model together or keep them separate.

Thanks for any help.

This is funny!!!

Some time ago, another user asked for help on the same problem and I was able to help him… I think this tut is starting to haunt me…

Anyway, these are the settings I proposed to him and solved the problems:

First of all you have to press the ‘Clip’ button instead of ‘Repeat’…

This is what I did to map the texture on the iris…

Note: I have also higlighted the offsX,YZ and sizeX,Y,Z buttons for a specific reason… You may need to play a little bit with their values, to finetune the texture’s position (offsX,Y,Z)) or scale the texture (sizeX,Y,Z), so that it fits exactly on the object…

In case my settings don’t work for you, post your .blend file here (if possible) or e-mail it to me, so I can get it and have a better look at the problem…

I hope this helps…

<EDIT>

Also, in relation to the tutorial should I weld the separate parts of the model together or keep them separate.

I don’t find a reason why you shouldn’t join all the separate parts together… The different parts, will not lose their initial material and texture “information” after the join (if that’s what you are afraid of…). But don’t use the decimator (edit buttons) after that, because it will screw up your textures…

Just a piece of advise though: Just save a copy of the scene without the parts joined together… Just in case you need it…</EDIT>

Just a piece of advise though:

Sorry

Talking about “eyes” here, I think I need a new pair of glasses… :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Enzo… Don’t feel sorry at all…
