Hey i just got a imac second hand from a friend. Its pretty neat although i am never totally switching to mac  (im fine with Ubuntu and Windows). Anyhow, i am trying to get Blender working correctly, as soon as a start blender, it appears on the Panel below but dissapears! I THINK i download Python 2.3 But i am not sure if i downloaded the right thing. Can anyone pass a link to what i need or what im doing wrong?

Ironic, I was just reading about this today. Anyways “that” is your problem. You need at least Mac 10.4 in order for Blender to work.

BTW: (A bit off topic but…) I got Mac 7.1 working on my DS.

LOL How did you do that? strange. Anyway i can get mac on my DS without fudging it up or special hardware i cant make?

Anyhow, can i update even with no internet? thanks

What? I’m not sure what your asking but I just followed this.

Anyways, I’m not really a mac expert… I’m guess you don’t need the internet to update, but it would help.

i ment, do you need to buy any special hardware to get mac on your DS? or can i just make the hardware.

And what i mean is, i have no internet on my mac, is there a ‘mac update’ i can put on a cd and update it?

Blender 2.46 runs okay in Mac OS10.3.9 if you download the right version. If you have an OS older than 10.3.9 then it probably won’t run. In fact I think anything after Blender 2.37 won’t run in the older OS.

So the first thing to do with your Mac is check what OS you have. You’ll find this under the Apple Menu > About this Mac. If it’s not 10.3.9 or newer then you’ll need to update. If it’s 10.3.something you should be able to update free using the software update thing under the Apple menu or by finding the updates on Apple’s website.

Chances are you already have Python 2.3 installed because it comes with the OS. Therefore you just have to be sure to download the Blender version made for Py2.3 (blender-2.46-OSX-10.3-py2.3-powerpc).

Then unpack it and put it in a Blender folder inside your applications folder. It can be a bit funny about being inside folders inside folders inside folders so you would normally just have one folder inside the applications folder… something like:

Hard-disc>Applications>blender-2.46-OSX-10.3-py2.3-powerpc>application and other files here

That should work.

Edit: Sorry, just noticed you said 10.2. Bummer. You’ll need an upgrade to at least 10.3.9.

10.4 might be too much for an old machine to handle. (?)

i already stated i have 10.2! I know i need to update but the mac has no internet, how can i update?

The “safe” (and easiest way) is to buy a special homebrew card (yes, extra hardware). I use Max Media Dock, but you could also use other cards like supercard, etc.

I’m not sure. You need to ask a Mac expert… or get the internet. =P

AndyD, what version of Blender do you think would work on a mac 7.5.3 ?

lol you gonna blender on your ds? good luck man that would be awesome.
