Made a mistake, need help correcting. (Newb here)

somewhere along the way I made a mistake with my options or may have clicked the wrong button… But, I want to correct this action. The first image is how it appears to me and I want it back to the way the second image portrays.

This first image (I am unable to get the angles to curve with the object so that I may manipulate to my liking)

The second Image (This is what I want it to be back to and stay this way)

Thanks in advance.

In the subdivision surface modifier settings enable the ‘Apply Modifier to Editing Cage During Edit Mode’ option (triangle icon)

Richard,
Thanks a lot for replying so quickly. Unfortunately now it appears to, well I just do not know. I am also now missing my grid layout (Already triple checked my grid floor option under “Display”).

I have also restored my blender to default settings and still it will not correct any of these mistakes I have made. It was working fine last night, now… nothing.

Below I have attached another image of how it is appearing now. It feels to me, though I am freshly new to all of this 3D editing, it is a scaling issue maybe? I dont know.

Look in the top left corner of the 3d view. In your original post you are in orthographic view, in your latest screenshot you are in perspective view. The grid you want is only visible in orthographic view. Toggle between the two with numpad 5.

I suggest you start reading the blender manual (link in the blender help menu) as these are part of really basic parts of understanding the interface

About your initial question, Richard already explained it well, anyway I’ll try again with my bad English.

In the Properties Editor on the right, in the Modifier tab that is visible in your pictures, look at the row of icons relative to the subsurf modifier, they determine whether/how the subsurf is displayed in the viewport (or during rendering).
If you compare their state in your first image with those in the last you can see the difference. Try to turn them on/off and look at the tooltips.
