Make a particle system follow text while text disappears.

The title may not do justice in explaining what I need to do. I want a particle system to follow the text while it disappears behind it like in this example. I want the same effect but with text.

How I made the Example:

  1. I made a Path Curve

  2. Deformed a plane onto it. (the Fuse)

  3. Added an array modifier to make it the appropriate length.

  4. Made another plane that has the particle system on it that follows the long deformed plane as it shrinks because of an array modifier.

Any Ideas on how I might do this?
