Hey Player1, i had some simliar issues with linked characters. Maybe this thread will help:

Edit or change materials of linked characters?

Hm, i already ‘override the library’ on that linked character, but the material remains to be locked. But nevermind, if its true that it changes back next time you open the file its useless anyway. I can easily change the materials in the orignal file, no problem.
