Make local proxy rigs (for cloud rendering)

Hi there,

My scene has multiple linked rigged assets, each animated with proxies.
I want to send my scene as one file to cloud rendering, but when I try to “make local > all”, the rigs stays linked due to the proxy connection.

Is there a way around this?

Thanks!

Can’t you just append these characters and resave?

Hi SidV, do you mean to “make local”? All assets’ proxies have animation already. Thanks

Just to make sure, do you know the difference between linked and appended?

Not sure, but what about packing the scene? Making stuff local seems a bit limited in 2.8 atm, especially with Collections.

SidV: yes I think I know, the append imports the objects and everything else is the scene, the linked is just “reading” from another file and you need to make proxies to animate the rigs. Usually in production it is common to link the assets, so to keep everything lighter and more flexible. Not sure if I’m missing something. Thx for the video.

RobWu: is the Packing you refer to the one in File> External Data> Pack into .blend file?
That one is only for textures as far as I know. Thx

The cloud render provider suggested to upload the all files with complete folder structure via FTP.

@Gameleo:

You are correct on the link/append workflow. The manual isn’t quite clear on the Packing options, and I’m not entirely sure what they mean with ‘eligible external files’.
I haven’t tried it yet, but looking at the manual, theoretically it should work :wink:

But for now it seems your render provider has solved the issue for now. :slight_smile:
