Make particles fade out

I know this question has been asked about a million times but I need to know how to have particles, rendered as planes with a color as a material, fade out at the end of their life with the blender internal engine. I cannot use cycles as I would need to retexture everything plus cycles is really slow on my computer for the grainy quality I get. Is there any way to do this??

Yes, the node is in the shader (material) node tree. It’s an Input node but you can find it with the search function.
