MakeHuman Model to Blender 2.5 - Armature deforms only one layer

Greetings All,

Very new to blender, but thus far I’ve found a nice workflow from MakeHuman and am able to get my model into Blender.

Using Blender Exchange export from MH, the import to Blender comes nicely in 5 layers.

There is an armature & human mesh on one layer and the armature deforms the mesh nicely.

There is a human mesh on another layer that works great for facial expressions.

However, the when I move the armature on the armature layer, it will not deform the human mesh on the other layer.

Does anybody know the proper steps to get all the layers working together?

Peace,
Bud

It sounds like you will have to move everything onto the same layer, I do not think that bones can interrelate between layers…

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the thought. I have already tried combining layers to no avail.

Peace,
Bud

if have no such problems:

blender-2.55 rev.2/3xxxx
and now
blender-2.56 rev.34xxx

makehuman export imported with the “import mhx addon” (which has to be enabled in addons settings)
and the generated makehuman was from
makehuman 1.0 pre-alpha 5.1

system: Ubuntu 10.04 i386 64bit

For the rigging it makes no difference if there are multiple layers used. It is no problem to rig a mesh on a different layer as the armature is.
There was no difference for the imported makehuman in rigging the high-resolution mesh or the low-resolution mesh or the shirt and jeans.

ps. you should always include what you have and what you did. Maybe you only tried to import the makehuman-export for 2.4 … (makehuman generates 2 mhx files, one for 2.4 and one for 2.5…)

Update:
here is a short sample video of animated makehuman-body imported into blender-2.56

the only thing i could not use is the different uv-unwrapping of the low-poly-mesh. Its uv-unwrapp is different from the high-poly-mesh and the material with textures does not suit to it.

Thank you, Test-DR,

It’s good to know it can work.

MH Version is 1.0 Alpha 5.1
Blender Version is 2.56 Beta Win32 (2.56.0 r33949) and I selected the -25 mhx file to import.
System: Window 7

I’m truly psyched that it all comes in so nicely. But I rotate a bone in pose mode and only the one mesh moves as described above.

Just to be clear, once you import your model, you are able to deform the other layers without tweaking any settings first?

Peace,
Bud

yes - like the animation (see link to posting with youtube-video)
shows, the posing of the different makehuman-meshes works.
It shows the sync in pose of the high-resolution-mesh with
the shirt and the jeans together.
I even moved the high-resolution-mesh to layer 6 - because
i wanted it away from its default.
Are you shure, you use the right pose-bones?
You noticed there are different settings for ik/non-ik?
What happens if you move the base-bone (thats with the
circle-shape-and-big-arrows at the bottom of the feets to
move/rotate the whole thing …?)
(except the eye-aiming-bone… this is not parented to the root)
Did you notice that the mhx-importer deletes other things…
… for example, you use the default scene with one cube
and you import the mhx, then the default cube is gone …?

how do you export it to blender 2.5 in the first place?
