I’m working on a movie with pretty demanding special effects, one of the ideas that is stumping me the most is a scene where someones severed head has to decay or rot away into a skull. Does anyone have any ideas on how that could be done? perhaps with some shape keys and animating normal maps and displacement map intensity over time?
I’m just thinking… build two models… one Skull one complete head… then have the head rot away using the ‘build’ modifier…
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Modifiers/Generate/Build
but that’s not putting too much thought into it…
“decay or rot” It can’t dry out or turn to dust? i have a idea Ill go try.
Skin decay over time. Are you trying to do time laps image? You may get a better effect by just having different stage of decay and let the images dissolve one to the next. This suggest time passage.
You will need skull model for sure. Flesh turns to brown, and begins to dissolve. Over time flesh disappear and patches of skull need to show up over time:
This means skin / muscle layer object need to change texture, and shrivels. Shrivel can be accomplished by using shape key to pull skin object inside the skull model.
