Making and animating Kirby

Hello, first post. I’m also a n00b to 3D modeling and animation. I just wanted to say that up front. Now that that’s over, I need to model and animate Kirby in the next couple of days. The trick is that I’m also going to learn Blender in that time-frame so I can accomplish this.

I’ve already searched the forums and found this thread about Kirby. I want my finished product to look mostly like that.
I’ve made 2 Kirby models before:

Made this a while back in Cinema 4D.

I made this basically yesterday. Horrible, I know.

I should be getting the basic idea about modeling in Blender by tomorrow since I’m reading the documentation and tutorials pretty quickly.

I have one problem though. Kirby, when he sucks things into his mouth, his mouth opens to over half of his body size. Anyone have an idea how to make a model capable of having a small mouth at first, but that can grow enormously without reloading to a new model or making the rest of the body really skewed (as in the the second image)? Any ideas?

You can do RVKs.

Here’s my example of RVKs on a single mesh…
