making particle follow and rotate along path curve guide

Hi guys

any idea how you can make particles follow and rotate along a path guide?

Imagine you have arrows as particles and they would follow the path and rotate
along it instead of always facing upwards.

You could fake it.

-Make an arrow mesh
-Add a curve modifier to it
-Add an array modifier for the number of particles you want (you can animate this number in 2.5 to mimic more particles spawning)
-Then just animate the location of the arrow mesh along the curve,

I am sure there is a way to do this with actual particles, the method mentioned above just popped into my head when I read your post. You could probably get a good result with a particle system and empties with force fields placed along a curve.

Take a look at the attached Blend. I think it’s what you’re asking for.

arrow.blend (140 KB)

pappy is that a 2.5 file?

I cannot see how you made the emitting surface follow that path.
it has no modifiers applied.

what you showed is close to what I am looking for.

but instead of having the emitting mesh move I only want the particles move
along the path.

It’s 2.49

It uses a path constraint

The particle emitter has dynamic rotation (along object Z) turned on. That may be what your missing?

but instead of having the emitting mesh move I only want the particles move
along the path.
Oh wait, are you using a curve modifier, and trying to force the particles to follow it? I should have looked at your attached image a little closer.

It seems to me that it would be simpler to use the path constraint method. What is it about this that I don’t understand that you wish to happen?

ah I do not use any constraint.

I just applied a guide curve force to the path.

thats all.

in think in your case you make the emitter mesh move along the path.

I only want the particles move along the path not the emitting mesh !
