I’ve been working on this guy for some time. I done a few heads before. I’ve done a heap of reseach on topology, but I don’t know what will animation well. Plus hardly any one does guys. Saddly I’m on dial up, which means it takes to long to downloads video tuts.
I’m planing to make a short film with him and maybe with some others models later.
For the face I use the tut by torq (a better face tutorial) which I hoping will animatan ok.
This is my frist body and I can’t get the shoulder and back mesh right.
I think the lower chest and stomach is fine, but will move ok?
I’ve had some trouble with joining my head to the body. Can anyone sugget a better way?
P.S I’m aware that the neck seams a bit thin but that the way this elf has been drawn.
Thanks
I havn’t animated anything but a camera flight yet, but I’m busy with a character that will need a full rig.
I asume nothing can replace actually rigging, posing and refining the mesh based on that
Please use “Limit selection to visible”, the little cube icon for shots, as the backfaces shining through make it hard to impossible to “read” the mesh.
If the neck looks too thin it looks to thin no matter how it was drawn. Colours, shading and perspective affect how proportions are perceived. I think the neck looking flat on the back is more of a problem, though.
Downside of arms, above elbows, there’s a overly flat looking surface, resulting in too sharp transitions.
I miss a sign of collar bones. Even if you don’t want to detail that area, staying aware of where they are and how they move should help with realistic animation (I can’t claim to grokk shoulders, though )
EDIT: regarding joining head and body, I prefer to avoid that by either starting by boxmodeling torso and head in one go, or working from the head down.
I’ve never rigged anything so no time like the present.
I didn’t know that button was there.
I hadn’t even thought to look at that.(Back of the neck) I work on that next.
I’ve been have a lot of trouble with getting any good photos of males or see how someone would go about shaping the mesh…(As I’m not male I can’t even use myself)
Oh damm forgot about them(collar bones)…
I’ll try shaping my next model from the head down.
Thanks:D
