Is there a how to on coloring anime and manga ? I’m perplex about the smoothness, colors and shadows.
um… put an image of example… and Ill probably see where you are going… there is cel style, soft shading and then impression (try to emulate traditional painting.)
Can these be found on Gimp or Inkscape ?
You can try www.polykarbon.com
Not like all other anime/mangas but you get a bit of insight.
Or try this:
Amazing, just this week I was searching for tutorials on how to do this. Here’s some good ones.

Those are for Photoshop but will also work if you are using the Gimp.
Huh, done with mostly burn, dodge, RGB/layers eh ? Is smoothing, smudge and other tools the same in Gimp as in Photoshop or Paintshop Pro ? Or does that take extra settings ?
Also notice american style tend to put more layers on, then anime.
I dunno about GIMP but Paintshop Pro, yes. Blur, Smudge, burn, etc, are fundamentally the same…i think. Its been a while since i used PSPro.
And, yes, generally western style tend to have more layers than anime (emphasis is more on speed at which these frames are coloured.) Colouring manga art can be another story. Like Sutabi mentioned, there are other styles of anime/manga.
