Well, after being inspired by FEDB’s Maid_San, and needing to develop characters for The Good Ship Marie, I’ve taken a crack at an anime character. I put a quick template head together inside Inkscape, coverted it to png in Gimp, and loaded it into Blender to model to. I also used the head tutorial from “How to Create Virtual Beauties: Digital Manga Characters” for reference. It was pretty simple to put the head together, taking about 3 hours so far (most of that was tweaking work), but I am pretty happy so far. I have hair and ears to do tonight, with the body and costume to follow.
Mind you, this is my second attempt at a head that is not part of some lesson. My first solo attempt at a head is this poor fellow here.
the secret to creating anime heads in 3D is that there very unlike real heads. everything comes to a point at a sharp point for the nose and is very round with sharp angles at certain points. you’d also have to texture and toon shade to achieve it.
