Please bring me back the old fluid system, so frutstrating that each version with mantaflow…when trying to change wind turbulence force, it doesn´t update…not till I re-choose the cache, it will update…which means I have to switch from wind force and fluid force for each darn tweak I do.
is there a better approach to this? a shortcut to refresh the cache or something at least.
Not sure what they thought of with mantafluids.
Refreshing of cache is a problem with all physics, not just mantaflow.
There was a plan to modify cache writing when modifier will become nodes.
That should offer ability to have a cache node.
And a simulation nodetree should be able to handle several caching steps through several cache nodes.
That way updating a setting of a node after a cache node should be executed faster.
That is similar logic that exist with Modular cache. When basis of simulation is cached, baking of noise is faster.
So, Modular mode was default cache mode during development of mantaflow branch until 2.83.
Replay mode only has several months of existence.
So, if you are annoyed by that, a good attitude to adopt is to report a lack of refreshing as a bug.
There are bugreports for other physics (rigid bodies, particles…) But Mantaflow being a recent addition, I don’t know if there are as much about it.
In theory, any tweaking of a setting of domain should refresh cache.
Personally, I increase/decrease resolution of domain.
To avoid to select/deselect objects, I create a second Properties Editor area and I pin it.
That way, I can display force field and domain settings at same time.
I took this habit with old simulation system because it was not reliable at its early state (2.5) too.
No…I rarely had any issue with the cache in the old system…when you twek a force…and play, it updates as it should, (except for when using a force with texture)
And changing a property in the mantafluid domain doesn´t accurately refresh the cache, you have to go back and choose replay to ensure a proper sim.
I also feel the older system was faster to simulated as well, and behaved better with forces.
As mantafluids works now…it´s an absolute terror to try and be productive with forces included in the sim.
Yes. bug reports perhaps.
Going back to older fluid system for now…simulates faster, gives a better opengl smoke presentation and works with the forces and updating of it…as well as any movement of the container or the mesh…mantafluid doesn´t.
