Any other sugestions on how to learn Blender would be appreciated

Re: DarrinLile…
The upgrade from 2.49 to 2.5 was HUGE!! You shouldn’t have as extreme of problems with upgrades from now on.

CG Cookie owns this forum and yes they are awesome
Blenderguru.com is another great site

Hi RorrKonn,

I’m one of the owners of CG Cookie (and this site), and am the admin of Blender Cookie; I hope you’ll find us trustworthy  Is there a particular subject you’re interested in learning? Our 2010 Blender Training Series has always been very well received but I will admit it’s starting to get a bit old. Perhaps I can direct you first to some of our specific, free tutorials to get started or else point you towards one of our more recent training series?

The 2010 series is still about 95% relavant, but the few areas that have changed will tend to cause you problems. Most specifically with the rigging section; but everything else should still be quite solid. A more recent series that covers many of the same topics, but geared specifically towards Game Character development, is my Lowpoly Character Creation series. It is still completely relevant: http://cgcookie.com/products-page/blender-training-series-categories/blender-low-poly-character-training-series/

Cheers and best of luck!

I have used Truespace 3 ,Lightwave 7 ,C4D 9, Zbrush.
Blender looks powerful.
As far as I can tell there’s nothing Blender can’t do that the fab 3 can’t.
Thought it would be cool to make a 3D comic.
Dream maybe someday a movie.
This will be a personal project on a huge budget of $0.00.
So Blender and Gimp is priced right if thay can do the job.
I can do anything in 3D all the way up to characters.
So I need to learn everying thing in Blender.
from back grounds to character rigging.
Just don’t want to spend two months learning Blender only to found out Blender can’t do that.
Thay always tell you what there app can do thay never tell you what there app can’t do.
I assuming if Blender can make Sintel Blender can make my comic.
Sintel was made 100% in Blender ?
Thay used rigs or mocap ?

Thanks

Blender probably can do everything you need for a 3D comic. It has an eccentric control scheme, so it can be frustrating to learn at first for some people, but it is pretty high end in what it can do these days.

Here are the main tutorial sites:

CGCookie
BlenderGuru
BlenderNerd
BlenderDiplom

3DBuzz has a good series going from basic interface up to modeling and texturing a banana character. Then there are the various books/DVDs from Blender.org and the like. CGMasters has some excellent DVDs and free tutorials though some of the free ones are for older versions of Blender. All those places should give you a pretty good idea of Blender’s capabilities.

There’s also the freestyle branch that does non-photo realistic rendering (toon edges and such), the thread usually pops up to the top of this section at least once a week or so.

Hopefully it will someday get merged into blender proper but for now there’s builds on graphicall.org.

–edit–

Yep, Sintel was 100% blender from rigging to the final edit – think they only used mocap on the dragon from that dog they showed in one of the making of vids (I kid, I kid…)

Once ya learn ya first 3D app and learn the concept of 3D.
The more ya learn 3D app’s the easier it becomes to learn them.
Blender works a lot like Lightwave ,XSI so I’m comfortable with Blender.

Hi

I started using Blender a few months back and the first site I found was BlenderCookie.

I am glad I did, I would always recommend it where possible.

I am currently working my way through the 2010 training and have just purchased the low poly training as well.

It might be worth going through some of the free ones and see how you get on with the training. there is a excellent how to model a female series

Ctrl + E (In edit mode)

LOL after you have your mesh map and textured. You no how the texture wount match up good on the seems.
How do u all get you textures to match good ?
I’m using gimp.
