Manual normal map editing

A few months back i seen a tutorial randomly on the internet where a guy used a tablet to ‘draw’ on a model’s normal map and the changes were shown. While that wasn’t the main reason to his video it is 1 reason for me to jump over from 2.49b. Anyone know how to set up blender to do such a task? For some reason i can’t find anything.

I’m pretty sure he painted bump map, not normal map.

Just make new image, assign it to uv and to material’s texture, enable normal influence and set bump mapping space to texturespace and start painting your bump map.

Thank you very much. It didn’t seem like a bump map at first since there wasn’t a black/white/gray image but he did paint on the model which threw me way off. I’ll try this method when i get home!
