Mapping texture question

Does somebody can explain me why a scale modification in a vector/mapping node put between a UV Coordinate texture and an Image texture doesn’t change the scale of this texture?
If I want to modify the scale, I have to change the xy scales in the properties/Texture/Mapping.
What’s the difference between both?

First - probably ‘drop in’ convenience if there is nothing in node editor. While scaling can be used to add or compensate what’s entered in node editor Mapping, Rotation does not seem to be so cooperative.
