Not sure where this is going, care to talk a little about it?
This is a martian mountain range I’m working on for a animation. I’m somewhat new to blender so I would appreciate any tips you could give to make it look better and have more realism.
Try adding a slight translucency to the sand material for more realism. You can do it by adding a mix shader and translucentcy shader and plug in the image texture to the translucent shader
Oh ok, you didn’t say anything on the post so i wasn’t so sure.
I would add atmospheric depth in your image, you can do that in the compositing by using mist!
Adding quick tiling rock texture to the white parts for displacement would really help! (Just a note, if you’re going for photorealism: the peaks of mountains on Mars aren’t white. If you’re going for stylization, then carry on as you were!)
Also, I would lower the amount of visible water erosion: There isn’t much flowing water on Mars to erode those mountains. They would work great on Earth, tho!
To that end, I recommend using the ANT Landscape addon (already in Blender, just search it in the Addons tab of the user preferences and enable it)
Mountains are hard! For someone new to blender, this is outstanding work! The sand of the ground looks phenomenal!
