Match 3 type object

Hello guys.
I recived task to create Barrel Bomb/TNT object to put into Match 3 type game. Problem is i never done this kind of models, and i strugle to get this cartoony look. Right now the best i could do is this

I add my blend file :
BeczkaMatch3Game_001.blend (1.0 MB)

The end goal is to put my model to this picture and make it look like it belongs there, but i dont know how to even aproach that

In one of the reference images ( lower right ) is reference that make me think, because i think i can make to the “gradient” point of the workflow, but i cant find any tutorial how to make “render” part of this.

Any help would be great, thank you in advance guys !

You aren’t that far actually. As far as I can tell, there are 2 things that are keeping you from matching the style.

  • Remove the wood’s texture. The reference doesn’t have any texture like this anywhere.

  • The colors are too drab. The wood should have a rich, dark brown color. The metal should have an intense golden yellow and the red dial piece should be intensely red. This is probably in part due to the color transform settings too. The default AGx tends to look too drab, especially for this kind of cartoon style. Go to the color management settings (in the main render settings) and try filmic instead of AGx, it preserves saturated colors a bit better and should make it easier to get a vivid color (try standard for something really saturated). Also try to choose a higher contrast setting, the default is a bit flat.

I think their render is a mix of a few things, based on the instructions.

  • Part of it is just that they have added some lighting. You are fine on that aspect.

  • There seems to be a fine outline around the object and a drop shadow. Those should probably be made in an image editor after the render.

  • The fire effects seem hand drawn. I’m not sure if it’s the case, but some of the colors and shading might be too.

Would add to previous answer that you also should remove normals to make gloss and shading less detailed. It’s too detailed for cartoonish look.
If you look closely at the bottom of screenshots where same kind of bombs drawn - they does not have any shading details

Hello.
I come back with my model update. As you can see, i changed materials to be more detailed and more shadeless. In one version i added outline in LineArt.

The colors and shading are closer now. The line version isn’t quite like the source material, they have their outline only around the very outer silhouette of the objects. That’s why I think they must have done it in an image editor.
