(Material Gurus Needed!) Separate materials for particle system in Cycles

I don’t know how to ask this in a general question, so I’ll ask specifically my dilemma, lol. I’m making a particle system of shingles on a flat plane roof. I want to give the initial object (original shingle) a wooden material, but would like to overlay the flat plane roof’s material onto the particle system objects. Is this possible in cycles, and how would you set this up?
