I’m new to Blender but I’ve got 16years of 3D experience. I’m really confused by Blender’s material system. I have found numerous tutorials on how to apply photorealistic textures to models but I haven’t found one that explains how the material system actually works. In other words, I’d like to know why what goes where and how to set up shaders etc. so that I can understand how to set materials up myself. Most of the tutorials I’ve found are concerning the Cycles renderer but, at the moment, I’m not interested in the Cycles but straight forward materials. Can someone please direct me to a tutorial which explains how the material system works? I’d like to know this in general and more specifically, I’d like to know how to use shaders in combination with textures in the Game Engine and which shaders work and which don’t.
Thank you in advance.
