material that blocks light

don’t need it to block kryptonite just the light from a halo spotlight.
partial blocking would also be useful.
thanks all

light thru cube.blend (507 KB)

You could adjust falloff distance for Spotlight:

I used copy of the Spot on a second layer masked by Cube ObjectID to get some color change inside the cube.

Thanks, but I dont know how to animate light stuff. Every 150 frames I need to dim or block the light for 15 frames.

You have Halo on. Its teh Halo that is going beyond the cube. the spotlight itself probably isnt.
If you want to keep the halo then turn its intensity down and step size up will work. I havent used BI in about a year but that seems to work.

The spot halo feature for BI is very old and was more or less a scanline-based trick to (roughly) simulate a volume.

This feature as a result does not work with any kind of raytracing and shadowing with it will only work when the shadow buffer method is used. If you want a really good halo that works with raytracing, create a mesh that encloses the scene and assign it a volumetric material.

Thanks guys

problem solved. I just rotated the light down and then back up again. so effectively the light goes on and off!

In the ‘light tab’ > ‘shadow panel’ > choose ‘buffer shadow’

below, in the ‘spot shape panel’, under the ‘halo’ checkbox, set the steps to something above 0.
