Materials are stopping me from adding any further changes! [SOLVED]

[Please view that attached picture]

I’ve been working on a project for about 2 months now, and the materials are starting to act very strangely:

  1. A material will work fine one day then all of a sudden it refuses to allow any more changes. The material viewer will display the same picture, unaffected by the operator who is madly sliding the spec values.

  2. When a material was once transparent, it won’t allow me to change it back to a non-transparent object. An example is attached.
Notice the alpha value all the way up to 1? Why is the material viewer not updating the viewer? Also it’s not just the viewer, if I try to render this material it renders as a pure black object.

  3. In the texture buttons, the “Add New” button is permanently pressed down for every material. Not that much of an issue because I can still use it, but it might be related to the other problems.

I way I’ve gotten around these problems was to just delete the material, and start again. This does fix it, but it’s getting really annoying. Especially when I have to delete the material again in a couple of days.

Now I’ve been using Blender for about 5 years and haven’t experienced anything like this before.

I’m stumped.

Can anyone help me? :o

Thanks in advance!

It worked!!
I had to uninstall Blender then Delete the Blender Foundation folder. Then when I reinstalled it, I told it to use the ‘Blender Folder’ to store the application data (second radio button).

Now when I load up the .blend the materials obey!!

So, thanks RickyBlender, you’re a champion!
