Materials too glossy in eevee

Why do all my materials appear way too glossy in eevee vs cycles. I’m using principled shader, gloss-roughness, ref-specular and 8bit normal maps. Every material seems to have a Lacquered look no matter what I do

bump - i have the same problem here

Do you have Screen Space Reflection activated?

And please pack a blend file with it or at least a picture.

NormalExample.blend (140.1 KB)

It’s self explanatory but… notice Roughness 100%

Hi Raphael,

I don’t know if it’s a Bug or if Eevee renders it that way.

But as a workaround you can set Specular to 0 and control the brightness with Sheen.

EDIT:

Or you set the Specular from your Lamps to 0.

when I render it I don’t see a lot of gloss reflection
anyway roughness was set at 1 which is normal

not certain why you get so much gloss ?

also don’t put a lamp inside one meter of your object
that is not normal for light source !

happy cl

Hi RickyBlender,

After you load the Blend please make “Set Active Object as Camera” (Ctrl Nummpad 0) in the 3D Viewport
Zoom your Camera a little out and then render.

@RickyBlender 's not rendering, it’s the viewport, I can’t preview the material to be rendered in Cycles because it looks somewhat different in EEVEE, the same problem happens when we use Cycles and “LookDev” mode.
Changing the specularity of the material or the lamp will make undesired effects upon rendering with Cycles.
Anyway, seems like a bug, let’s hope someone fix that someday.

I made a Bug Report.
