I have a mesh with 2 materials assigned to it. I’ve assigned material A and B to different faces, yet when I hover over an area that should be all one material, it selects a few faces that have both A+B assigned to them. Is it possible to assign 2 materials to one face? Do I have duplicate geometry somewhere? How can I remove one of those materials without starting over? How can I tell if there’s duplicate geometry?

I do not believe that a single face can have more than one material – although “nodes” do allow you many ways to combine them. I’d start with basic things like “remove doubles.”
