Maya timeline trouble

Hi. I’m trying to import a sound clip of some dialog so I can do a test lip sync in Maya.

I’m having trouble with the time slider, or timeline. Below is a picture of what the timeline is supposed to look like:

If you look in my Maya screen I get this instead. There’s no ticks on it to indicate frames. There’s no play, pause, or stop button. Why is this?

I figured it out on my own. The problem was that somehow I turned the timeline off from the UI. In order to turn it back on, I went:

space bar > windows > settings/preferences > preferences > interface > UI elements

Then I clicked “timeline” so it was turned back on.
