Then heres the final step with everything in color I think of it as a heartless its not totaly finished yet I think I have to change the color instead of it being purple anybody know how to change a color its default for?

One of the first things I ever did in Blender was this very same Heart. It took me ages to figure out, it was a good learning experience.
To get your Surfsphere Heart even smoother, in F9 edit mode, see the resolution button with default 24, Well next to that you’ll see another button with a v32 resolution. Ok now change that v32 resolution to something like v60, and your heart will be much smoother. And now, see that other v4 button above that, don’t touch it! Or your sphere might disappear. 
Also add a couple of soft back lights behind the heart. Good luck sometimes getting the lights right can be the hardest thing.
To change it from purple, look in the ‘map to’ settings box (appears as a tab next to ‘texture’ when you apply a texture), you can change the second colour of the texture there. Well done on the background by the way, that took me weeks to understand when I started using Blender:D
