This is one of models I’m working on for a larger scene, for now this is one finished

The modelisation is perfect, you are a master
Your mech has turned out very well, josef! It is of a high quality that one could find in a film. As I said before, I really enjoy looking at all the mechanical details you’ve put into it; it looks complicated, yet thought out and functional. Terrific work, and I can’t wait to see more!
What the hell dude? imageshack? really?
Anyway great work. love the mech, the top part doesn’t really resemble anything i’ve seen so that’s original, plus it fits very well with the bottom part. Great materials and lighting, i still think you should give this render another go though, still a little bit noisy i think.
keep up the good work.
It must’ve been a lot of work to get all those pieces put together followed by texturing all of them with scuffs, scraped, and other details.
Great job on the modeling, I do agree that it looks film-quality (and so would the rest of the scene if the level of detail ends up matching this).
@Ride the flow, many thanks, I hope you enjoyed it.
@James Candy, thank you it means a lot coming from you. Phenomenal work on your dupliverts video.
@Ace Dragon, thanks! The textures are tileable, along with some procedural textures, this makes working with materials very efficient, this is one of the reasons I chose yafaray; because how easy it is setting up materials with it, it also produces some very accurate lighting without many tweaks.
@kohg, thank you. The noise was sort of amplified during postpro, is this better?
It does look much better. I might just try yafaray, since with cycles i’ve yet to learn how to master material creation.
To note, Cycles texturing can be pretty easy as well in part because you can wrap image textures like procedurals using blended box mapping (I think Yafaray may have box mapping, but I don’t think it can do any blending).
Materials in Cycles can also be a lot simpler with some of the node-group resources on this forum, but I am aware that some just like using high-level options and would prefer not to have too much low-level control (because of simplicity).
@kohg, absolutely, you should try yafaray, beware of a couple of things though, such as memory usage; because yafaray textures and geometry for some reason take up more memory than they should, or let’s at least say it takes more memory than cycles for example.
The other thing is render time, because yafaray uses the classic approaches to rendering that just fall a little short of being called unbiased.
@Ace Dragon, I completely agree with your comment. I imagine cycles is being designed to be able to produce different render styles, which is why so many options exist, and to be honest I couldn’t get anywhere with the materials; I tend to setup procedural materials after I’ve modeled simple parts of the object, to get an early feel for the render.
Here you can see for instance, this is a cycles render of the early stages:
Notice the metal. I attempted to throw in some procedural textures to break the surfaces, but failed because the nodes seemed a bit complex to understand.
Woah i am like totaly diffrent side. I like yafaray light, and that it has photons… however i totaly don’t know how to set materials in it.
However in cycles is like so i don’t know how to say i just know how to do this even some complex stuff. it is just logic. for me at least :>
Maybe i can learn u and u can learn me :>
Very gooood!!!
Model & textures are awesome
very impressive modeling. awesome. I was slightly bummed to read that you rendered outside Blender, because the lighting and rendering are top notch. I would love to read someone comment that “yeah, you could get the same quality result with Cycles.”
Awesome modeling man! Also, great rendering. Can`t say anything bad about it. You should make the render more interesting if you want it to be like a final still - try to add a story to it or a dramatic feel. Otherwise, if you just want it to be a presentation of the model, it looks amazing.
Cheers!
that’s very impressive mate
@Kramon, thank you, I’m so happy my work is received in such a positive light. If you can teach me how to light scenes similar to what you have in your portfolio, I’m sure I’ll switch to cycles in an instant, xD.
@Shingo80, thanks!. I worked very hard on the modeling aspect of it, this one is actually my first complete render in blender.
@Wilfred, thank you very much, I never really got out of blender - besides postpro - but I understand what you’re referring to.
If you’d like to see what the light looked like straight out of yafaray, here it is:
@AlinB, many thanks for the complements. Yes for now I will render the finished models for a larger scene, the image I have in mind is considerably larger and will include a story-line element, in fact, a story I’ve envisioned is what drove me to make this.
@Corinthian, Thank you, you’re too generous :).
