attempting to make a ghost in the shell stand alone complex style mecha armor…
You wouldn’t believe it, but I just happen to be listening to ‘lithium flower’, the end credits music from Ghost in the Shell…
Anyway, I’m liking it thus far, particularly the legs, which seems to be where you’ve done most work anyway. As for crits, it’s early days yet, but I’d think about posting some reference shots, and also some more basic lighting with the renders. For the final images, go your hardest with AO, coloured lights etc, its a cool mood the image has, but for now some simple clean renders with plenty of light would help with giving feedback.
Just to clarify, are you going for your version of a similar mech, or the mech from the show? Both good, would just help for what kind of feedback you want.
great start !
maybe you could add more hard edge…

if you want i can upload more references shots i just went through a couple eps of stand alone complex … more for ideas than anything …
the first piece is the main concept art it is a 3/4th view of what im aiming for the most however the ways its drawn is a bit hard to model ecpecially in the legs. So i opted to take some tips from the masters that made gits
so to answer your question it is definately more trying to be like a mech from that genre and not one of them.
and i think i will be mostly reworking what i have done so far today to fit more with the first mech image…
here are some more gits shots for reference…
Thanks for clearing that up, that way crits will be on modelling, texturing, etc instead of ‘how much does it look like the original…’ Looking forward to more renders!
Ben.
so, i am going to put off any updating until i get some solid detail done on the upper body , i got the hand to look like the one picture and it looks realy nice but its too small an update … prolly this weekend i will be able to have a serious update
im trying to think of some good techniques for adding interesting details to the armor any advice would be good… so far besides using knife tool and extruding polys from the base of it im considering using retopo for making different mesh skins but its a slow learning process so shrug and its also probably a slow creation process double shrug
i really dont like the shoulder now that im looking at it , i really like the hands… and the torso isnt looking so horrible… but the shoulder/arm area is really driving me crazy…
i love it. doesn’t look to feasible for animation though.
actually compared to the other stuff i made this should animate pretty nicely , what doesnt look good to you?
cant think of what else to add to this really … so its eitehr done or i need some very specific crits on what to add thanks…
Well… for very special crits… I like Masmune Shirow works (done some landmate too in my early days) and I can tell these mechas are landmate…
Landmate are not robots. They are exoskeleton. Driven by a human inside :)…
In the refs of the anime, you see there is a second pair of arms. The human driven arms.
If you are aiming to Shirow accuracy, then do the second pair :)…
If you are just inspired by the design, then I migh suggest adding your very own details and make that design truly yours Take possession of it
atta’ boy ! Repeat after me : “That design is MY bitch” louder !
Now another thing after looking at the image… maybe the legs are a bit thin for a mecha of this size. Even if you compare it to the ref… try and work the proportions there…
