I have made this today, just finished rigging it (I rigged it twice, somehow it didn’t occur for my to use IK with added constraints, then a few extra handles)
The gears also work in a neat ratio, it all follows the rotation of the small gear. By changing the rotation speed of the small gear the larger one and the conveyor belt will follow. (I used to find this really difficult because turning rotation transformations into a linear displacement loop can be difficult as they often reset the rotation at every 360 degrees if not looped correctly)
Here is an image of the raw model, time to add textures, proper lighting and an animation. (I still struggle with lighting, I swear it is the hardest part, read so much on 3 point lighting etc and still cannot get it to work properly)
Well that’s the mechanical arm,
(I have been using outputs with python to drive stepper motors, if I print the exact same pieces, there is no reason I couldn’t use the animations to drive the actual arm in real life using blender…? future project maybe)
