Mechanical Rigging?

Hi. I usually model inorganic things - like robots, cars, things of that nature. After I get done modelling them, I’d really like to pose them, but I can’t find any tutorials on how to rig an inorganic model using the newer versions of blender. I did find a tutorial on rigging something like a mechanical spider, but I don’t think it is relevent any more. So, blender community, how do I go about rigging a model that is made up of more than one mesh, and where I don’t want any deformations?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Rigging mechanics is very easy.

  1. Create the rig. You will find
    http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/PartIX/The_Non_Linear_Animation_Editor_Window_(NLA)
    helpfull.
  2. Set the armature to pose mode. Select the object, shift-select the respective bone. Ctrl-p -> Bone.

That’s it. Probably you want to make heavy use of constraints, especially the action constraint.

Thanks alot - I finally got it

Big thanks for the tips i was looking it for a week :stuck_out_tongue:
