Hi, looking for a little advice to advance some of my modeling skill (of humans). So far I’ve studied mostly Jonathan Williamson’s tutorials and done poly-by-poly. While this has gotten me to be fair, I still struggle some (especially as I see some of the topography produced by some of the skilled artists here). So I’ve been sort of looking for an alternative refrence to kind of compare against and maybe gain the insight of some other methods as well, which leads me to my question. Would either book Virtual Vixens (http://www.amazon.com/Virtual-Vixens-Character-Modeling-Placement/dp/0240809807/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256043678&sr=8-1-catcorr) or Edgeloop Character Modeling For 3D Professionals Only (http://www.amazon.com/Edgeloop-Character-Modeling-Professionals-Only/dp/047003629X/ref=pd_sim_b_2) be worth looking at or should I just focus on some of the topographies posted within these forums and be about the same for it? Or further (or re-phrasing) There are some models here that have amazing topography that can (and will) teach me a lot, but would one of the above books help teach my eye what to watch for (to help create key edgeloops) while studying those models?.. or save the money and just keep grind practicing? I don’t know, probably not asking real well, but feeling a little stale and trying to find some opinions how how to step up the next (subtle) level (and improve my techniques and topology).
