Medieval Character Animation

Hi Everybody,

I am working on an early XIV century English peasant, trying to make it walk. Would like to make a series of short animations food “academic” purposes, in which I would show how people lived in the middle ages and so on.

This is my first attempt to rig it, and the walk cycle looks very odd to me.
His feet are still sliding, and I can’t fix the left leg when it hits the tunic either.

Any suggestions will be truly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Manorial

walk cycle is a little stiff. Might want to add some secondary action (arms swaying slightly off frame) and follow through

Very cool character! and nice start for your animation.

I agree with daren, Also the feet are a bit too stiff, and they slide a little bit. Even if our shoes are really hard, they usually bend as we walk, especially at the end of a step. I should help to take that feeling of stiffness.

Mathias.

If i were so far … But this “dangling” thing on his hat/caput needs to you know dangel. And those shoes were even softer then today and more a cover than something fancy as todays sports shoes.

Thanks guys,
I will try to improve his walk by adjusting feet and making them bend more. Yeah, I should definitely make the liripipe (that strange thing on the hood) dangle. Will try to post some renders of every motion position, so that you can tell me how to improve it.

In general, this is a good start.

I think you need to add foot roll and toe controls. Here’s a tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tApdSx_4b0Q

Apart from that, the animation is missing the weight shift in the hips. Basically the hips should be moving side to side and roatating on all 3 axes.

Great character. The walk cycle is pretty good, though it does look a little stiff, as well as just a little rushed, but other than that I like it.

Thanks guys, again  I am trying to make it more realistic, will post another video as soon as I get some decent results.
I’ve put my keyframes at 1, 11 (middle position) and 21. Do you have any suggestions about that? Also, how long should the path to follow be long?
Thanks!
