Meet Relay, the successor to ND [$ ⭢ Free]

Hey folks,

ND (our first Blender extension) is getting a full rebuild, and we’re calling it Relay.

We’ve learned a ton since the original version, and this rebuild is a chance to take all of that and do things properly. It’s not just a visual refresh — a lot is changing under the hood, and Relay is shaping up to be a big step forward.

As we work on it, we’ll be sharing progress updates, videos, and early builds over on Patreon.

If you want to follow along, try out early dev builds, and get access to all our other content and add-ons too, you can join us here :backhand_index_pointing_right: https://www.hugemenace.co/patreon

Just to be clear: ND isn’t becoming a paid add-on.

We’re only using Patreon as a place to share the development process and give people a way to support the work. A project like this takes a lot of time and effort, and that support genuinely helps. Once Relay is ready for its first stable release, it’ll be available as a completely free and open-source Blender extension.

If you’ve got questions, feel free to ask below. I’ll keep this post updated as things progress.

Hi there!

I noticed you edited your post, but since I could still see the original version, I thought I’d reply anyway in case others reading this thread have similar questions or concerns.

In short, Relay is the next version of ND. Since ND is currently on version 2, you can think of Relay as ND v3.

Once Relay is stable, it will replace ND in one of two ways: either we’ll keep the ND name and ship Relay as its next iteration, essentially replacing the existing ND codebase, or we’ll move forward with Relay as a separate codebase and name. In that case, ND would simply be deprecated in favor of Relay. We haven’t made a final decision on that yet.

In the meantime, while Relay is in development, we’ll continue fixing bugs in ND as needed — in fact, we’ve already done that for 5.2. That said, ND v2 won’t be receiving any new features; all new feature development is happening in Relay.

So if you’re currently using ND and plan to keep using it, you’ll ultimately be using Relay in one form or another once it’s ready. It will also remain a free, open-source Blender extension.

Hope that helps clear things up!

It does! I figured it was something like that, so I just deleted my post and thought it best to simply wait and see. Thank you for answering just the same! Really excited, good luck!
