Mercedes G Wagon

Hi!

Doing more mechanical work lately. A bit something as the Lotus project is on little halt (but it’s getting there).
Just wanted to do something really clonky stuff. Raw metal, rotating things. So I guess I model some kinda off-road stuff and decided to make the Mercedes Benz G-class wagon as it’s kinda bulky but still somewhat interesting.
We’ll see how it goes.
Just some viewport renders:

Google is your friend!

Got some texturing done and made normal map for the tire so it won’t take so much vertices.
Left is the original modeled tire tread ,right side is the tread made with normal map. 580k vs 88k verts.
Last is screenshot from quixel’s render window.

Started the chassis.

I wasn’t asking how to make tire tread, I was just wondering how this specific tread was done. More than anything just wanted to confirm that it was normal mapped and not mesh

It’s made as shown on the video. Then I baked the modeled tire tread to normal map in Substance Painter.
Hope that helps.

Here’s some more progress:

Almost everything modeled and uv-unwrapped.

Nice work!

Can you perhaps share the material for the rim? It looks very nice.

That looks fantastic!! I can only dream to achieve something like this one day

Thanks!
It’s texture made in Quixel so there would be no benefit sharing it.

Thank you! Just more practice!

Undercarriage and exhaust getting some love.

Almost ready. You always find more vents and stuff to model.
It’s going to be a pain in the ass to texture the whole thing…

I always enjoy seeing your work, Can’t wait to see more. I didn’t study it for errors, but there aren’t any glaring mistakes!
