Merge by Distance broken...?

I’m using Blender 2.8 and I’ve found out that Remove Doubles has been changed to Merge by Distance (much prefer what it was called before), but is it broken or something…? Or am I completely missing something here? I’ve noticed flickering on my pillars, which suggests to me that there are doubles. But selecting one in Edit Mode, going to Mesh > Clean Up > Merge by Distance does nothing. It says it removes 0 vertices. But if I delete one of the faces, there’s another face and the flicker stops.

Probably the 2 shapes are sharing the flickering face but not the vertices position.
My suggestion is to do delete by hand in that case to keep precision.

If precision is not your concern you can open the little menu that appears in the down-left corner, increase the merge distance and see if “doubles” are merged.
