I can not for the life of me figure out how this would work, but with blender, everythings possible! (almost)
I was modeling a room, and i had first set up the vertices from top view, then extruded on the z axis to make it 3d. the problem with that was, that the doors where now floor-to-ceiling, where they should have a space at the top.so i selected the top edge and extruded downward into the doorframe, as you (hopefully) can just barely make out in this horrible picture (sorry, couldn’t get a normal screenie, had to take it with my camera phone)
But the problem is, the middle section above the doorway, the bottom 2 verts are not connected to anything! i want them to be attached to the edges on the right and left of the door, respectively, and get rid of those extra edges and end up with something like this (just a quick model i made by extruding verts)
So if any one has any idea what to do please help! And if I have succeeded in completely confusing you, just say so and i’ll try to clarify. Thanks!
Not being able to see the pictures for some reason, I would delete where you extruded and press Ctrl-R to make a loop cut. Once you have your loop cut going in the right direction, left mouse click and move it to where you want the top of the door to be.
Well, I can’t see a picture but from your description, you should not have extruded downward into the mesh. You would then have overlapping polygons where the extrusion made new faces.
Extrusion adds to the geometry and should almost always go in the direction away from the mesh to create new faces. If you can’t delete the edge as in the advice above, try just deleting the entire wall and start again. This time stop at the door, then extrude again. If this happens again, that is, if you go too far, just select the top edges or points and use the g tool to bring them back down, then extrude again, or as already suggested, ctrl r to make a new loop, LMB to slide it into position.
