For the past few days, i’v been thinking a lot about mermaids. So I figured, why not bring the imagination to life? I did a lot of experimenting and I decided that my machine isn’t fast enough for cycles, so I used blender render. I never consider any of my art to be complete, so I’m posting it as a WIP. Although it’s very possible that I may be reluctant to add anything to the scene, cos even with blender render, it takes hours to render.
mermaids r mammals, so i believe their tails should be more like dolphin tails rather than fish tails. the difference? besides the obvious color difference, dolphins dont have scales; their tails move up and down (not side to side as in a shark for example). this means the tails r dorso-ventrally flattened, not laterally flattened.
but then again, they r imaginary creatures anything goes
The tail fin is way to rigid at the bottom , definitely need to shape that to appear less straight . Otherwise looks good for 1 year experience in modelling
I take it the model is not rigged then , Do you have any experience using curves? If the model is indeed static you could have done some easy deforms with one or two curves and vertice grouping then apply etc
i think i’ll just remodel the tail fin…sculpting doesnt do it for me
she had a basic rig. but after posing her, i applied the armature modifier and deleted the rig…i have very little experience with curves. i’v only used them on looooong meshes and walk paths, but i’ll give it a try
I think the tail looks better if it is smaller. I like your reasoning about the tail being based on a dolphin rather than fish, since a mermaid is a mammal .
