Mesh -Armature parenting problem

I have this mesh with the armature set up. I used the weight paint technique to parent the vertices to the bones .I had an armature modifier and i made a simple walk cycle for the mesh , and the mesh was “walking”. i tryed this in the game engine but the mesh was in rest position becouse i didnt parent the mesh to the armature and when i did that i go tis messy result

Something like this happened to me once, and it turned out the problem was that I had two armature modifiers applied to my character instead of just one.

You should parent your armature before you start weight painting

I’ve never had to use the armature modifer ever, I wonder what it does?
