Hi guys, I am reading through William Vaughan’s “Digital Modelling” book and Im on the second exercise which is modelling a football. I have followed all the steps but am currently stuck on one part.
The exercise starts with creating a tetrahedron which I have done and followed through with no problems up to this point.
The quote from the book is thus “I wanted to deform the shape of this mesh into a sphere, so I used a deformation tool that shrink-wraps any geometry into a sphere.”
Thanks for that Richard. I used the transform method which seems to work best. The cast method changed the shape and size of all the panels on the ball. I need them to stay the same.
The only other thing is, when using the transform method, in the book it shows curved edges on the blue panels whereas mine stay straight. What would cause this?

Because the object origin was not in the centre of the object. When corrected you get the same as the To Sphere option
Once I had created the sphere thanks to Richard I had to extrude each panel and then bevel the edges but what I found is that after beveling each panels edge it has created a gap between the panels.
I extruded but didnt move, then used shrink fatten (Alt-s) by 0.07 then selected the edge loop of each panel and beveled at 0.01.
