Hi guys im new to blender, after watching a few tutorials and making a few basic box men I decided to download a simple character model and attempt to rig it… After parenting the armature and doing weight paining I tried to then rotate a few parts.
Heres where my problem lies. Sadly I have no idea how to explain the problem in technical terms as I lack the right lingo… so here is a screen shot
Recheck your weight painting; you have to go over things fairly carefully to get the weights just right.
The vertices that are being left behind in your screenshot need more influence from their respective bones. Work bone by bone with the bones slightly rotated like you have them and that will tell you where you need to concentrate your efforts.
It’ll be confusing at first, and frustrating, but keep at it and it’ll eventually start to make sense.
If you need more instruction on weight painting, check out some tutorials here, and here.
I usually see stuff like that when I have mirrored the bones or some mesh. In other words check the weight paint from the other arm, there may be some vertices still attached that are unexpected. The other quick way I check is tab into edit mode on the mesh and walk the vertex groups by "Select"ing them and make sure they are in expected areas (I usually find this the fastest way to find issues).
Hey thank for the replies, I watch the tutorials sadly they didn’t help me identify the problem.I have checked all my bones again non of them selecting parts of the mesh they shouldn’t im at a total loss now. I got the original model off blender swap could it be something to do with the model that I am not aware of?
It actually might not be a problem… some times my models look like this when I’m in the middle fo weight painting them… if you just keep going through the process of selecting each bone and painting it’s weight to the desired vertices… you might just clear this mess all up… Or is it that you have finished with all the weight painting?
I agree with this approach. As important as painting weights ONTO the bones is making sure to UNpaint the bones that shouldn’t have influence. It can be a bit of a long haul getting through it, but it will come together.
Hi guys thanks for the reply, I had actually finished the painting already also the cape is a separate mesh not parented of the bone structure… I have since posting created my own very simple model and animated is using a very similar armature and weight painting. My belief is that its something to do with the model
