I have spent a long time trying to animate my model. I first used an armature but this produced ugly jagged edges and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it. So I instead used a lattice with a curve modifier. This worked quite nicely as you can see in the first image. However, when I tried to bend my model the other way, it twisted and distorted quite severely. It appears that whenever I drag the handle of my curve past the midline of the lattice, the model rotates 180 degrees. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks so much to everyone who looks at my post. I really appreciate everyone’s help.
hummm… this is definately something I would use bones and weightpainting on… But it should work just fine the way your doing it… Off hand I would say that when you drag the curve handle across it’self you are forcing the verice to ‘flip’ in rotation… Are you animating this? if so… you need some intermediate key frames where you control that transition better between point A and point B…
I tried bones and weight painting. However, I kept getting a saw tooth appearance when I deformed my mesh. Surely, there is a way to fix this, but I thought a lattice and curve could fix this without weight painting. I hate weight painting haha. I can never get it right. I found that if I removed the lattice and just used a curve, it worked. I unfortunately lost the additional control that the lattice provided.
Yes, I want to animate this. Although I have it working I would like to see if I can get it working with the lattice. What do you mean by intermediate keyframes?
Thanks again
