mesh won't alter position when i enter numeric values in transform panel,

colleagues:

i’ve reloaded the factory settings for blender 2.75, but a problem is persistsing…

i have a mesh that has an armature modifier and all its transform fields in the 3d view transform panel are locked
i copy the mesh, and the new model is offset from the original one
i unlock the transform fields for the copy
i remove the armature modifier from the copy
i press alt-p to clear any parents from the copy
i enter 0.0 for the xyz location of the copy in the transform panel and nothing happens, i.e. the model does not alter to the position i entered
the snapping magnet icon in the 3d view footer is grey
in addition, whenever i hover my cursor over the 3d view and press g, the mesh jumps

i must have pressed a button somewhere, but i haven’t found the cause.

thx for your input, i will mark thread as solved and phrase my final reply to make the solution easier for other users googling the problem

Have you enabled snapping on the 3d view header (magnet icon)

sorry about that, i’m uploading file but it’s taking forever

Are there any location keyframes

for other objects (rigs) in the scene, yes, but the copy does not have an armature modifier and it isn’t the child of anthing as i pressed alt-p and confirmed this in the outliner

Are there any constraints that affect location
