Is there any way to mirror a metaball as if it were a normal polygon object, instead of duplicating objects, and then moving each into a specific place?
Their is no X mirror or Mirror modifier for Meta objects. But, plane old Mirror works using the M key. The best way to use it is set your pivot point to 3D cursor (make sure the cursor is centered Shift-C), select the balls you want to mirror, press Shift-D and then M and X.
Thank you!!
Forgive me for bringing up such an old topic, but I want to share my own experience and solution. The problem is still here, as there is still no obvious way to mirror the metaball. But there is one workaround, that I found very convenient:
- Create a metaball.
- In object mode, create a clone of it (Alt + D), but do not move it anywhere.
- Scale the clone by minus 1 in the X-axis (S + X + -1).
- Go to edit mode. In edit mode, you can add new metaballs and edit old ones, while the changes will be automatically applied to the clone, as a result of which you will get a complete analogue of the mirror.
