Metal Guitar - Modeling / Lighting Study

The OP’s pickups are Seymour Duncan single coil, not mini humbuckers.

Edit: I’ve seen there’s the Seymour Duncan STK-T3B model that could fit the OP with a cover.
Let me be a bit skeptical about the output vs a real humbucker tho.

This one has high output and is a Humbucker

Ok, you made me wanna quit xD

@Artemios Never quit man! I wanted to quite MANY times during this project, as I said it’s just my 2nd big project… Just keep going and it will be fine!

@LazyVirus The pickup positions are pretty much spot on, I used a photo reference (see the original post), but the neck/fretboard ended up a bit too far away from the neck pickup somehow and I couldn’t be bothered to fix it… I was like, it’s a custom guitar, I wasn’t copying a specific model, so anything is possible  I was a bit tired of modeling at that point (I did the tremolo first, that was a big job).

Malmsteen and the Iron Maiden guys definitely use stacked single coils, they pretty much look just like regular single coils. But yeah, admittedly this is not a guitar that you would use to play Slayer, Killswitch Engage or Fear Factory :stuck_out_tongue: It’s more for lead players. Let’s just say it’s a good “alt-metal” guitar and then everybody is happy  :metal: :guitar:

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

@bartv Thanks Bart, I appreciate it a lot! :slight_smile:

I used to blast Rising Force back in the days. The pickups are just fine and in order, only thing you could tweak is to scalop the neck but thats a minor detail compared to the model as a whole.

Looks amazing.

I have that exact bridge/tremolo on my old Ernie Ball EVH which may have been unique at the time. Interesting choice to inset it like that. On the EVH it’s mounted flush to the surface of the body.

+1 for the [Bl]ender Guitars logo too.

Thanks for the kind words @alekba!

@Zoot Thanks, glad you like it! I like inset tremolos, personally, because then you can go really wild and hard with upwards bends too and fluttering.

This is one of the finest renders I have ever seen. All the details are first class and nearly flawless. Textures, modeling, even lighting… much respect.

Well done. Like the metal imperfections.

The only thing I’d look at is the material that’s used for the guitar’s body. When I look at the first image in this thread, my eye almost sees a bowl with a cloud floating on top of it. I think there needs to be more reflection from the entire surface so that it looks “really solid.” Gleaming, yes, but also solid.

The modeling is, of course, “above reproach.”

Outstanding modelling skills! did you use Decal Machine to get the holes in the body, or were they actually modelled? I’m a new Blender user, and trying to understand modelling techniques.

Your rendering looks fantastic.
can you tell me where you got your references/blueprints from? -
so special (vibrato, bridge, pickguard). Everything from image references?
Guess you probably have your own electric guitar.
